Çarşamba günü kurumsal nüfuz gözlemcisi Public Citizen tarafından yayımlanan bir rapora göre, 2024 seçim dönemindeki tüm kurumsal siyasi bağışların neredeyse yarısı kripto para şirketlerinden geldi.

Hükümet şeffaflığı grubu OpenSecrets tarafından sağlanan verilere dayanan Public Citizen raporu, şu ana kadar kurumsal seçim harcamalarının %48’inin Ripple ve Coinbase gibi kripto şirketlerinden geldiğini ortaya koydu. Bu, toplam 248 milyon doların 119 milyon dolarlık kısmını oluşturuyor.

Public Citizen raporunun yazarı, araştırma direktörü Rick Claypool, kripto endüstrisinin siyasi harcamalarını “eşi görülmemiş” olarak nitelendirdi. Kripto şirketlerinin son üç seçim döneminde yaptığı doğrudan harcamalar, 2010’dan bu yana bilinen tüm kurumsal bağışların %15’ine denk gelen 129 milyon dolara ulaştı. 2010 yılında ABD Yüksek Mahkemesi, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission davasında şirketlerin PAC’ler aracılığıyla adaylara sınırsız bağış yapma hakkına sahip olduğunu hükme bağlamıştı.

Rapora göre, 2010’dan bu yana yalnızca fosil yakıt endüstrisi kripto şirketlerinden daha fazla harcama yapmış ve son 14 yılda fosil yakıt yanlısı politikacılara bilinen 162 milyon dolar bağış yapmıştır.
