Bahamalar merkezli teknoloji şirketi PO8 tarafından desteklenen projede, dünyaca ünlü deniz arkeologları, deniz yaşam alanlarını iyileştirmek ve ülkenin mavi ekonomisi (sürdürülebilir büyüme ve istihdam için okyanusların, denizlerin ve kıyıların ekonomik potansiyelini çevre ile uyumlu bir şekilde geliştirme) için para toplamak amacıyla batık hazineleri kazıyor.

Kazılan her bir esere daha sonra söz konusu nesne için akıllı sözleşme işlevi görecek token’lar (NFT) sağlanacak ve bu eserlerin verileri, Blockchain üzerine kaydedilecek. Geçek dünya varlıkları, sergilenecekleri PO8 Müze Vakfı’nda kalacakken bunların ekonomik değerini dijitalleştirecek olan NFT’ler de dünyanın her yerinde satılacak ve işlem görecek.

PO8, projenin Bahamalar ekonomisine yılda 60 milyon dolar katkıda bulunacağını ve en yoğun sezonunda 100’den fazla yeni iş alanı sağlayacağını öngörüyor.

Projenin deniz yaşamına faydaları

Projenin ülke ekonomisi için önemli faydalarının yanı sıra bölgedeki deniz yaşamını korumaya da yardımcı olacağı söyleniyor. Kazılan deniz eserlerinin çoğu balıkçılığa ve bölgedeki geniş deniz yaşamına zarar verme potansiyeline sahip olan metallerden yapıldığı için bunların temizlenmesiyle deniz yaşamının zenginleşmesi bekleniyor.

Batık hazinenin bölgeden uzaklaştırılması denizdeki doğal resiflerin restorasyonuna yardımcı olacağı, kazı alanlarına yerleştirilen yeni yapay resiflerle de deniz yaşamının daha da iyileşeceği ifade ediliyor.

Projede çalışan deniz arkeologları arasında RMS Titanic gemi enkazı bölgesine en son giden keşif ekibinde yer alan David Gallo, Amazon’un Apollo F-1 motor kurtarma ekibinin üyesi Troy Launay ve tanınmış gemi enkaz araştırmacısı Claudio Bonifacio bulunuyor.
